A historic landmark showcases the history of hydroelectric power generation in Niagara Falls. It was the first large-scale power generation site on the Canadian side of Niagara Falls established in 1905. The purpose is to utilize the immense energy of the Niagara River to generate electricity. This facility paved the way for engineering and technology in developing hydroelectric power and setting the global standard. Plan your tour to learn about the history of the site and its workers, who have kept it running for more than 100 years.

Interactive Exhibits at the Niagara Park Power Station/ The Generator Hall

As soon as one steps inside the power station, one is welcome to the generator hall that has transformed reused relics, and exciting exhibits that depict the transition to use hydropower. Special emphasis has been placed on providing original machinery and several items depicting the functionality of the station throughout its existence.

To enhance your experience, there are several exhibits in the Generator Hall at the power station, providing information about the history and science behind power generation. This tour becomes more interesting, as it offers the tourists, a hands-on experience for educational and entertainment purposes.

Follow the Flow

Follow the flow is a meticulously designed replica of the power station. It allows the visitors to see the inner workings of the power station. Several elements of this model, allow the visitors to see different stages of power generation. They can see how the turbine rotates to generate electricity. Encouragingly, guests use the model to follow the water flow from the forebay, through the turbines, and into the Niagara River below.

Experience the Rush

Experience the Rush penstock is another interactive exhibit of the power station. A fun activity that provides the feel or the thrill of the force of the water as it passes through the penstock; the large pipe through which water is transported from the intake structure to the turbines.

Key Features of the Experience the Rush Penstock:

Transparent Penstock Section: This section of the penstock is made transparent so that visitors can see the powerful flow of water through a pipe.

Observatory Platform: The penstock also features an observatory platform. This safe and comfortable platform offers visitors the spectacle of the flowing water.

Interactive Displays: There are many informational displays throughout the penstock, providing information about the role of penstock in power generation and the engineering behind its construction. These displays enhance the visitor’s experience making the tour worth visiting.

Audio-Visual Elements: Audio-visual supports, including videos and sound effects, might also be incorporated into the attraction to enhance audience engagement. These elements can assist the visitors to have a sharp perception concerning the power and force of water passing through the penstock.

Take Control

An interactive experience of “Take Control”, engaging visitors with century-old buttons and levers, as used by operators in the previous century. Visitors can feel and experience the challenges of controlling the flow of water with this hands-on exhibit. With this type of exhibit, people can learn about hydropower science more interestingly and engagingly.

Tesla Coil

An awe-inspiring feature of the Power Station is the Tesla Coil. This lighting show takes place every time at the end of a guided tour, the historical station is enlightened with arcs of lightening. This high-voltage step-down transformer exhibits electricity production and distribution concepts. The public can observationally witness electrical discharges being produced by the Tesla Coil; this is usually magnificent and successfully makes people appreciate the force of electricity.

Underground Tunnel Experience of Niagara Parks Power Station

Discover the new experience of Niagara Parks Power Station Tunnel. It allows the visitors to uncover the underground components of the power station. This included a ride of 180 feet on a vertical glass lift which is followed by a 670-meter (approximately 2,200-foot) tunnel that was excavated over a hundred years ago with the help of rudimentary dynamites, lanterns, and shovels.

At the end of the tunnel, there’s a viewing platform, offering panoramic views of Niagara Falls and the surrounding region.

Guided Tours

To have a deep understanding of the power station, paid guided tours of the main generator hall are also available. Experts provide you the information about the facility’s past and the purpose behind its establishment. The guided tours focus much more on the workings of the station and the people behind its creation.

Niagara Parks Power Station at Night

An interactive way to experience the beauty of power stations and Niagara Falls is to visit them at night. Encounters of beautiful graphic and light projections, the active narrative of the water powers’ talents, as well as a mesmerizing view of the Horseshoe Falls’ lighted structure, make this attraction an appealing experience that illuminates the power of transformation of the power station into an iconic and historical emblem of the hydroelectric power.

The nighttime experience is available from 7 pm till 10 pm, with the last entry at 9 pm. The heritage-listed power station, as well as the underground tunnel that runs through the building and down into the earth, is also thrown wide open to the public and the magnificent display of LED lighting just adds to the beauty.
