The captivating attraction of Journey Behind the Falls is located at the Table Rock Center in Niagara Falls, Ontario. It allows you to pass through the tunnels leading to Horseshoe Falls. This journey provides a mesmerizing view of one of the most powerful waterfalls in the world.

130-year-old Tunnels

The journey begins with the thrilling descent of 125 feet through the bedrock. After the descent, visitors have to pass through the 46-meter tunnel behind the falls. Originally opened in 1889, these tunnels have been enhanced and maintained over the years to improve the safety and experience of the visitors. To create a safe environment, tunnels are built with concrete and facilitated with lightning.

While passing through the thrilling tunnels, visitors can feel the ground vibration because of the thundering water of the falls. Visitors can experience this thrilling journey on their own, as they pass through the tunnels. Tourists can face 2 main viewing portals Cataract Portal and the Great Falls Portal. Visitors can witness the panoramic views and the real power of nature from these portals.

Scenic Views from Decks, Journey Behind the Falls Niagara

At the end, there are 2 observation decks, the Upper and Lower Observation decks. Each of the decks provides unique and stunning views of falls that make your visit memorable.

Upper Observation Deck

Open all year round, the Upper Observation Deck provides wide and impressive views of falls from a higher point. For those who prefer to view the majesty of the falls without the mist and spray that represent the lower deck, this deck is ideal.

Experience: Visitors can take in a broad panorama of Horseshoe Falls from the Upper Deck. Here visitors can see the tumbling water creating a breathtaking visual show, without the mist and spray from falls.

Photography Opportunities:  This deck is popular for photography among those, who want to capture the panoramic views of the falls with the mesmerizing views of sunrise or sunset.

The elevated perspective allows for breathtaking photographs of the falls, particularly during sunrise and sunset when the light creates beautiful reflections on the water. Visitors can capture the full expanse of the falls and the surrounding landscape.

Educational Displays: To learn about the geography and history of the area with the thrilling journey, Upper deck sometimes features informational displays. These displays will tell you about the hydrology of the Niagara River and the falls, and the cultural significance of the area.

Lower Observation Deck

Situated at the base of the Horseshoe Falls, the Lower Observation Deck offers you a close view of cascading water. Standing at a foot distance from the falls, one can feel the powerful spray and vibrations of the thundering water as 2800 cubic meters of water cascades down every second. This deck has been put in place to provide the guests with a close encounter with one of nature’s marvels.

Experience: The visitors are likely to be surrounded with mist which contributes to the desired coolness, especially during hot seasons. This is usually accompanied by the thunderous sound of the water falling creating a more profound experience of the site.

Photography Opportunities: The view of the Bridge from the Lower Observation Deck is perfect for taking photographs. People visiting can make wonderful shots of the falls and other views, particularly the American side of the falls which are accessible from this angle.

Seasonal Closure: However, the Lower Observation Deck is generally closed from the middle of December to the middle of April because of icy conditions on the cliffs that restrict voters from accessing the view. At this time however, the Upper Observation Deck is available for visitors to tour.
